Privacy policy
Last updated: November 2026
The short version
You can read, search, and listen to the Bible without an account. If you create one, your notes, highlights, bookmarks, and collections are private to you. Groups are invitation-only. We never sell your information, and your private study content is never sent to advertisers or AI services.
What we collect
- Without an account: nothing that identifies you personally. Searches are processed on our server to find passages and are not stored against your identity. Reading preferences (translation, text size, theme) are stored only in your own browser.
- With an account: your email address and password (stored securely by our authentication provider; we never see your password), plus the study content you choose to save — notes, highlights, bookmarks, collections, reading position, and display preferences.
- Groups: the groups you create or join, invitations, and the notes, passages, and comments you explicitly share.
How your study content is protected
- Notes, highlights, bookmarks, and collections are private by default. Database access rules — not just hidden screens — ensure only you can read them.
- A note becomes visible to a group only when you choose to share it. You can stop sharing at any time, and the group's owner can also remove shared items from their group.
- Only current members of a group can read its content. Removed members lose access immediately. Group pages are not indexed by search engines.
- Invitation links are secret, can be revoked by the group owner, and expire.
Third-party services
- Audio: chapter audio streams from a third-party public audio host (bible.helloao.org). When you press play, that host receives standard request information such as your IP address, like any website you visit.
- Optional AI explanations: off by default. When you turn them on, your search words and the matching public-domain Bible verses are sent to an AI provider through Lovable's AI service to write a short explanation. Your notes, account details, and group content are never sent.
- Advertising (when active): ads are non-personalized and appear only in a few clearly labeled placements — never inside notes, groups, or between verses. Your notes, group discussions, and search text are never shared with advertisers. Where the law requires consent for advertising cookies, we will ask first.
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Google or Lovable, those providers process your sign-in under their own privacy policies.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit or delete any note, highlight, bookmark, or collection at any time.
- You can leave a group, or stop sharing a note, at any time.
- You can delete your account from Settings, which removes your saved study content.
- You can use the entire reading, search, and audio experience without ever creating an account.
Data retention and security
Your account data is kept while your account exists and is deleted when you delete your account. We use encrypted connections and database-enforced access rules. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but protecting your private study is a core design goal of this site.
